Sexual Health Task Force

Chemung County AIDS Task Force Expands Focus Changes Name

Members of the Chemung County AIDS Task Force recently agreed to expand their focus to all topics dealing with sexual health.  Supervising Public Health Nurse, Rebecca Becraft said, “By expanding our efforts and promoting services and education on a variety of sexual health topics we will be able to provide more for the community and tackle current issues.  Sexually transmitted diseases (STD) rates in Chemung County are higher than New York State averages and our efforts will help address this”.   The members approved changing their name to the Chemung County Sexual Health Task Force.

The mission of the Chemung County Sexual Health Task Force is to provide agencies and individuals the opportunity to network and coordinate efforts to raise community awareness and education regarding sexual health.  The Task Force addresses the HIV/AIDS, STD, and pregnancy prevention needs of adolescents and adults.  The Task Force promotes positive, healthy, and informed choices regarding sexual health.  The Task Force values inclusion, diversity, respect, and open communication as tools to accomplish its mission. LGBT resources can be found here.

The Task Force will continue to work on raising awareness of HIV/AIDS and getting tested.  Additionally, they will develop a plan to promote healthy and safe relationships, and reduce the rate of STDs as well as teen pregnancies.  Members of the Task Force include the Chemung County Health Department, the Ivy Clinic at Arnot Ogden Medical Center, Southern Tier AIDS Program, Trillium Health, Trinity, Planned Parenthood, and members of the community.  All are welcome at Task Force meetings. Meetings are held on the second Monday of every month at 1:30pm at the Health Dept. in the Assembly Room.  For more information please contact Dawn Bush at the Chemung County Health Dept.

The Sexual Health Task Force meets the second Monday of every month 1:00 – 2:00 pm in the Page Auditorium.
