Does Your Child Have Special Health Care Needs?

The Children with Special Health Care Needs Program (CSHCN)

The Physically Handicapped Children's Program

Families with physically disabled, cognitively challenged or chronically ill children often need a wide range of services to meet their child's special needs: financial, medical, legal, educational, and emotional.

Any child, ages birth to 21, who resides in New York State county that has a CSHCN or Physically Handicapped Children's program, and has or is suspected of having a serious or chronic physical, developmental, behavioral, or emotional condition which will require health and related services of a type or amount beyond that required by a typical child, is eligible to participate.

CSHCN staff can assist families by providing useful information and making referrals to community and government resources that will help them provide for the needs of their child. Some counties also offer short-term case management and advocacy services on the child's behalf if needed.
